On October 17, 1981, Nelson Piquet won his first Formula 1 world title in Las Vegas, United States, at the wheel of a Brabham-Ford-BT49C.

 

Nelson crossed the finish line in fifth place and sealed the title with a one-point lead over Argentine Carlos Reutemann, 50 to 49. During the season, Nelson won three victories and secured four pole positions.

In the beautiful Brabham-BMW-BT52, Nelson kept cool and headed for third place, thus winning his second title in the main single-seater category.
