On September 10, 1972, Brazil had its first Formula 1 world champion. Emerson Fittipaldi won the title by winning the Italian Grand Prix, driving his Lotus 72D. In a fierce battle with legendary driver Jack Stewart, the Brazilian won 5 of the 12 races held that year. Spain, Belgium, England, Austria, and Italy. Emerson became the youngest champion in history at the time, at just 25 years old.
